Family on the hook for $132K sculpture damaged by son gets help from insurance company

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Two Johnson County parents who were staring down a $132,000 bill for a damaged sculpture might finally be able to exhale.

Less than two months after Sarah Goodman’s son damaged a sculptureat the Tomahawk Ridge Community Center in Overland Park, the family's insurance company has paid the city $107,000 to cover the damage.

An Overland Park spokesman said the city is not seeking any other payment associated with the damage.

Surveillance video showed the boy hugging the valuable sculpture, causing it to fall over.
