Flights resume landing at San Diego airport after nearby standoff

An active shooter situation that shut down traffic at the San Diego International airport has been solved, San Diego police said.

Officials say 33-year-old Titus Colbert surrendered to police after a more than five-hour standoff Wednesday, and no injuries were reported.

The Federal Aviation Administration halted incoming flights for several hours as a precaution because planes swoop low near the apartment complex before landing.

San Diego Police Lt. Scott Wahl says Colbert threw "multiple weapons" out the window of a rooftop apartment before being taken into custody.

The incident began around 1 p.m. Eastern when police responded to a domestic violence call. Upon their arrival, officers were met with rounds of gunfire.

Wahl told Scripps station KGTV that bullets came within inches of hitting officers.

After a standoff that lasted a few hours, the suspected shooter was eventually apprehended by police. Air traffic has resumed at the airport.

There was no word on the exact circumstances that led to the shooting.
