The deaths of two police officers May 2, 2015 have led to the arrests of four people — and two face capital murder charges.

In 2014, more than 50 police officers were killed in the line of duty. That number was up from 27 in 2013.

The Hattiesburg, Mississippi police department identified the two officers who were killed as 25-year-old Liquori Tate and 34-year-old Benjamin Deen. Tate was a recent graduate of the police academy, and Deen was a K-9 officer who won Hattiesburg Police Department's officer of the year in 2012.

The shooting occurred during a routine traffic stop at about 8 p.m. Saturday, according to police. Mississippi officials haven't detailed what led to shots being fired, but according to Mississippi Department of Public Safety, both officers were shot at the scene and later died in the hospital.

This shooting marks the first time a Hattiesburg police officer has died in the line of duty since 1984.

Ten law enforcement officers have been killed so far in 2015.
