Patrick Hickey has decided to "step aside temporarily" as an IOC member and from all other Olympic positions following his arrest in a ticket scalping investigation.
Ireland's national Olympic committee said Wednesday Hickey is stepping down "until the matter is fully resolved."
Hickey was taken to a hospital Wednesday after police came to his beachfront hotel to arrest him. He is accused of plotting with at least nine others to illegally sell tickets for the Rio Olympics.
Hickey also is stepping aside as head of the Olympic Council of Ireland, president of the European Olympic Committees and vice president of the Association of National Olympic Committees.
The Irish body says in a statement that Hickey will continue to cooperate with the investigation.
