Last 'Serial' podcast released: Who killed Hae Min Lee?

and last updated

The last episode of “Serial,” a riveting podcast that continues to grow in popularity, was released today.

“Serial” explores the 1999 murder case of Hae Min Lee. Her ex-boyfriend Adnan Syed was arrested and charged with the murder, and is serving a sentence of life in prison.

The case against Adnan was largely based on the story of one witness, Adnan’s friend Jay, who testified that he helped Adnan bury Hae's body.

“Serial” host Sarah Koenig began exploring the case over a year ago. The podcast explores the possibility that Adnan is innocent, as he has always maintained, and brings to light new information that didn’t make it to court at the time.

Frustratingly for listeners, the podcast has no definite conclusion or solution. Adnan remains jailed.

Listeners have begun to develop theories of their own regarding the case, and the work of “Serial” has spawned a review of the case by The Innocence Project – a national litigation public policy organization dedicated to exonerating wrongfully convicted individuals through DNA testing and reforming the criminal justice system.
