Tens of millions of people may be impacted by a security breach at Anthem in which hackers stole social security numbers and other personal data from the insurance company's servers.

Anthem is the second largest provider of health insurance in the United States. It announced the hack to its servers on Wednesday.

The company has not said how many consumers may have been affected. It serves at least 69 million people through its affiliate companies, according to Krebs on Security, a website that reports on consumer safety.

Anthem officials said the company has launched an investigation into the cyber attack to determine the number of customers affected.
