Mulvaney invites bipartisan group of lawmakers to Camp David

White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney is inviting a group of Democratic and Republican lawmakers to Camp David for an informal gathering, three White House officials said.

White House officials said plans for the gathering were still in the works, but that Mulvaney had begun to invite a small bipartisan group of lawmakers to join him Friday at Camp David. It's the second time Mulvaney has invited lawmakers to the presidential retreat in Maryland but the first time Democrats are on his guest list.

Aides said there was "no agenda" for the casual gathering and described it as a "friendly get-together." Politico first reported on Mulvaney's plans.

White House aides declined to provide a list of invited lawmakers.

Mulvaney, who took on the role of White House chief of staff in an acting capacity at the end of last year, has used the presidential retreat as a setting for several gatherings in his tenure so far, including for a senior White House staff retreat at the beginning of the year. He has sought to leverage his experience as a former congressman in his new role.

Mulvaney's gathering with lawmakers will come days after President Donald Trump's State of the Union address and a week before the short-term spending bill that ended the last government shutdown lapses.

Last month, Mulvaney and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen gathered with a group of Republican senators at Camp David.
