Talk radio host Diane Rehm is saying goodbye after nearly 40 years on the air.
A staple of NPR's programming lineup since 1995, Rehm will retire next year, according to reports.
The Washington Post broke the news Tuesday, citing sources involved with her program, "The Diane Rehm Show." CNN confirmed the news shortly thereafter.
Rehm, 79, started as a host at Washington's WAMU-FM in 1979 before the show was nationally syndicated by NPR 16 years later. Her show is still produced by WAMU.
According to the Washington Post, Rehm's show is carried on 197 radio stations and is heard by about 2.5 million people each week.
