Right now, police don't have much of a description of the shooter, so they're hoping witnesses will come forward and help them identify the gunman. Officers have cordoned off a huge area around the shooting scene, they are going door to door, and they're searching every alley in the area.

Baltimore Police say the 18-year veteran was shot in the head near Fremont Ave. and West Franklin Street while working on an investigation around 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Police say this is an extremely dangerous area of the city.
Commissioner Kevin Davis said the homicide detective was doing a follow up on a case he's working on when he confronted a man who was acting suspiciously. Minutes later the man shot the detective in the head and took off.
"There's no doubt in my mind that we're going to identify him, we're going to arrest him, we're going to ensure that justice is done," said Commissioner Davis.
Now, the detective is at shock trauma fighting for his life. Baltimore-based WMAR was told the officer is in grave condition and he is on full life support in intensive care.
