One person is dead and another was rescued after plummeting off a California highway overpass early Wednesday morning.
The incident happened at around 2:47 a.m. local time along southbound southbound Interstate 15 in Escondido.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a caller reported seeing a car stopped in the HOV lane and two men exiting the vehicle to use the bathroom. The caller said the men had fallen over the side, plunging several feet onto San Dieguito park.
Responding officers located the passengers of the vehicle shouting down at the two victims.
One of the men was pronounced dead at the scene. The other victim was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. The driver, Michael Jonathan Le, 25, was arrested on suspicion of DUI.
The car was stopped about a quarter-mile from three gas stations with restrooms open to the public.
