In a letter to House Democrats, Speaker Nancy Pelosi signaled Friday that she is prepared to send articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump to the Senate.
"I have asked Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler to be prepared to bring to the Floor next week a resolution to appoint managers and transmit articles of impeachment to the Senate," Pelosi's letter said.
The House of Representatives voted to impeach Trump on charges of obstruction of Congress and abuse of power on Dec. 18. Pelosi has since delayed sending the articles to the Senate, saying she wants confirmation that a fair trial will be conducted before she does so.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell appears poised to move ahead with setting rules of impeachment without first establishing a witness list — something which Pelosi has called for since the articles were passed.
