A magazine editor is raising funds for clean water projects through a campaign in which he promises to listen to music by the band Nickelback for 168 hours.

Jesse Carey, of Relevant, started listening to Nickelback tunes on Feb. 19. He will continue looping it for one week.

Relevant is a Christian magazine with an audience of 20- and 30-somethings, according to its website. Carey is a contributing editor and a regular on the magazine's podcasts.

Carey says 100 percent of the funds raised through his campaign will go to clean water projects through Charity Water.

As of Saturday morning, Feb. 21, Carey had raised more than $27,000. His initial goal was $10,000.

Nickelback has been picked on by the Internet for a few years now. In 2011, more than 43,000 people signed and online petition to have the band removed as half-time performers at a Detroit Lions game.

The band performed the show despite the petition.
