Police follow liquid left by car to arrest shooting suspect

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) — Las Cruces police investigating a shootout outside a pub arrested a man after following fluid that leaked from a vehicle.

Police said a man escorted out of the pub early Friday morning got a gun from his care and shot at security officers and that one fired back.

No injuries were reported, but at least one round fired by a security officer hit the man's car.

The man drove off, but police said investigators followed a trail of unspecified liquid left by the car to a home where they arrested 22-year-old Sostenes Quinones.

He was jailed on suspicion of two counts of assault with intent to commit a violent felony.

Police spokesman Dan Trujillo says he doesn't know if Quinones has an attorney who could comment on his behalf.
