Prior to a meeting with Democratic congressional leaders, President Trump told reporters that he would be "proud" to shut down the government if he does not get funding for his proposed border wall.
Trump made the comments in a back-and-forth with Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer (D-New York). The presumptive next Speaker of the House, Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-California) was also in attendance.
Trump has threatened in the past to shut down the government if he does not receive funding to build a border wall on the US/ Mexican border. Earlier Tuesday on Twitter, Trump proposed having the military build the wall.
During the 2016 presidential campaign, Trump promised he would build a wall and have Mexico pay for it.
More on this as it develops.
