S.C. father kills daughter, 2, while attempting to make gun 'safe'

A South Carolina father said he was cleaning his gun when he accidentally fired it Thursday, shooting both of his daughters in the upper body.
 
The incident killed the man’s 2-year-old daughter and injured his 4-year-old daughter, Time reports.
 
According to a statement by the Richland County Sheriff’s Department, the 30-year-old man was “attempting to make the weapon safe” when he accidentally fired the bullet, which struck his hand and the young girls.
 
Heaven Miller, 2, died from the gunshot wound while the 4-year-old victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
 
The girls’ mother, who is pregnant, was at the house when the shooting occurred.
 
The Sheriff’s department said it was investigating the shooting as accidental.
