The first person diagnosed with Ebola in Great Britain is deteriorating.
Pauline Cafferkey, 39, was diagnosed with Ebola hours after returning to Scotland from Sierra Leone, where she was volunteering. She was put in isolation and transferred to Royal Free Hospital in London on Dec. 29.
BBC reports Cafferkey has received an experimental antiviral drug and blood plasma transfusions from Ebola survivors. Antibodies from the blood of a survivor may help the immune system fight off the virus.
"My thoughts and prayers are with nurse Pauline Cafferkey who is in a critical condition with Ebola,” said British Prime Minister David Cameron in a Twitter message.
Another person is being tested for Ebola in England, The Guardian reports.
The Ebola virus has killed more than 7,800 people in West Africa in the worst outbreak in history. Several have been volunteer healthcare workers.
