(WTVM/NBC) An 18-wheeler carrying chemicals exploded on an Alabama interstate Wednesday night, prompting the evacuation of a half-mile radius.
The fire occurred on Interstate 20/59 after authorities say the driver stopped the vehicle, smelled an odor and called 911.
The tractor-trailer, which reportedly contained hydrogen peroxide, sodium hydroxide and sulfuric acid, later exploded.
The interstate was shut down in both directions and residents within a half-mile radius were evacuated.
No injuries are reported.
