(WOWT/NBC) A 12-mile chase in Madison County, Neb., came to an end when a deputy leaped into a moving 18-wheeler and brought it to a stop.

Dashcam video shows the dramatic moment when Sgt. Todd Volk got out of his car, ran across the highway and jumped into the cab of the moving truck to get it stopped.

It turns out that the driver of the truck wasn't trying to evade deputies. Instead, he was having a diabetic episode.

The man's blood sugar had dropped to a severely low level, and he didn't know that he was diabetic before this happened.

Volk says the sheriff's office had sent a number of vehicles ahead to clear the path of the truck.

Volk said a number of more populated areas were coming up, and he believed it was the last place he'd have a chance to stop the truck.

The truck driver was given glucose and taken to a hospital.

Volk says he hasn't had a chance to talk to the driver, but he's been told that he's expected to be fine.
