A Georgia man is under arrest in connection with several hoax bomb threats in Palm Beach County, the FBI says.

Preston Alexander McWaters, 25, of Athens, Georgia was taken into custody today, according to the FBI.

It says the bomb threats were made against schools, a business and airport.

The FBI says McWaters was arrested without incident in Athens.

He now faces federal charges and will appear in court in Macon, Georgia.

“This individual is not school-aged and certainly should have known better. But if anyone is thinking about a copycat situation, clearly this individual based on the way they were using technology were very savvy and were doing a lot of things to slow this investigation down and they still got caught,” said Palm Beach County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Robert Avossa.

The superintendent is encouraging parents to have a conversation with their children about the consequences of making threats. He said it's unclear what type of connection, if any, McWaters has to Palm Beach County.
