UPDATE: The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office has identified the men who died as 30-year-old Daniel Del Valle and 22-year-old  Osvaldo Gomez-Alberto. Both had suffered gunshot wounds, PBSO said.

The case is being investigated as a double homicide.

EARLIER:

Two men are dead after their car slammed into an apartment building near Greenacres early Wednesday morning.

No one was hurt inside the apartments, but it did create a scary scene and residents had to be evacuated.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said the wreck happened at 3:06 a.m. at the Palo Verde Apartment Complex located in the 6100 block of Forest Hill Blvd.

Detectives are investigating potential shots fired in the area prior to the crash. It's unclear if the men were killed in the crash or were already injured before the wreck.

“I'm scared for my family. I’m scared right now because the car could have a gas leak. It could blow up, so it’s better for us to stay (outside,)” said Jose Soto, a neighbor who lives nearby.

Neighbors say they were woken up by a loud boom after a silver car crashed into a resident’s apartment, plowing through a concrete pillar and another wall.

According to witnesses, the car was sitting inside a family’s kitchen but they escaped unharmed.

"None of the car is outside the wall. It’s completely inside the house ... I started thinking about the people in there because there are kids in there and they literally started to crawl out anyway they could like through the windows anything,” said another witness, who called 911.

It's unclear when residents will be allowed back into their homes. Detectives and deputies remain at the scene.
