A child ran into a vehicle Monday morning, according to the Palm Beach County School District, who initially reported the incident as a hit and run crash.
A 7th grade student from Howell L Watkins Middle School missed his bus and was running to catch another, ran between two cars, and hit the side of the vehicle, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
It said he did not use a crosswalk.
The driver of the car the boy hit and another driver stopped and tried to get the child to wait until an officer arrived but he boarded a bus that took him to Egret Landing Elementary, the sheriff’s office said.
Palm Beach County Fire Rescue responded and transported the child to St. Mary’s Medical Center for treatment of minor scrapes and abrasions.
Some parents we spoke with say they have strict rules about safety and catching the bus.
"Be careful when he's cross the street," said Elda Alceme, who's 12-year-old takes the bus everyday. "Look both ways and usually there's two or three kids walking with him so they will all cross at the same time."
PBSO says the driver is not facing any charges.
The student is expected to be released later today.
The investigation is ongoing.
