PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Authorities are investigating an information breach after the confidential addresses of more than 3,500 law enforcement officials were released online.
News outlets report the addresses of officials including Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office authorities, federal judges and prosecutors have been released.
Mike Edmondson, spokesman for Palm Beach County State Attorney Dave Aronberg, says the breach is a violation of federal law. He says those in the Palm Beach County state attorney's office who have had their addresses revealed have been made aware it.
The site that posted the information was started by former Palm Beach County Sheriff's deputy Mark Dougan. He says he sold the site in 2012 to friends who live in Russia and believes they hacked into county records. He did not offer proof beyond that on Tuesday.
Officials are investigating where the information was taken from.
