PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. — Two people were killed after a wreck on the Turnpike northbound in central Palm Beach County early Friday morning.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 2016 Honda Accord, driven by Kynlan W. Smith, 21, of Plantation, Florida, was traveling northbound on the Turnpike approaching the Okeechobee Boulevard exit ramp at 3:35 a.m.

The Accord decelerated as if to exit onto Okeechobee Boulevard.

But for reasons unknown, the car traveled off the road and onto the right grassy shoulder of the Turnpike northbound.

The car then traveled up the embankment on the shoulder and struck the overpass support beam of the exit ramp.

After impact, the car continued traveling down the embankment and struck the concrete support beam for the overpass.

Smith and a passenger, identified as Darrian L. Abney, 22, of Palm Bay, Florida, were both pronounced dead at the scene.
