A Palm Beach County couple is accused of starving their child to death.
A grand jury indicted Kristen Meyer and Alejandro Aleman Thursday. The couple appeared in the jail courtroom Friday where they were formally charged with first degree murder, aggravated child abuse and cruelty to animals.
Investigators said the couple’s daughter was about 1-year-old when she died in April, 2016.
According to court documents, Meyer and Aleman, who have multiple children together, intentionally didn’t feed this daughter.
One passage read the couple “did unlawfully from a premeditated design to effect the death of a human being, kill and murder T.A., a human being, by depriving T.A. of food and/or water and/or proper nutrition.”
The child died while the couple was living in a house on 30th Lane in Loxahatchee. The couple was evicted from the house about one month after their daughter’s death.
The couple will remain in jail with no bond.
A spokesperson from the Department of Children and Families released this statement:
“As we continue to mourn the loss of TA, we’re committed to protecting her siblings and helping them heal from this tragedy. All of the other children remain in the care of the department. The department’s death investigation remains open at this time as we continue to coordinate with law enforcement’s criminal investigation.”
