LAKE WORTH, Fla.-- Detectives are searching for who attacked a homeless man in Lake Worth on a quiet, residential street.

A pair of work boots, flowers and a single candle marks the spot where 51-year old Thomas Altman was found bleeding Tuesday on Avenue L.

He later died at the hospital.

Known by those who knew him as "Lawn Tom," they say he was kind and hard working.

Many in the neighborhood hired Thomas to mow their lawns.

"He was one of the hardest working, good, just honest people I've ever met," said Lisa Moore, who paid Thomas to cut her grass.

Neighbors are helping raise money for funeral costs.

"It is very heartwarming, it just touches and blesses my life knowing that my big brother has touched so many lives in so many positive ways," said Thomas' sister, Cindy Altman.

A memorial and funeral is planned for Thomas on Thursday. It will be at the Village Baptist Church in West Palm Beach at 10 a.m.

Anyone with information about the attack, is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-458-TIPS.
