LAKE WORTH, Fla. -- A man was struck and killed by a train early Saturday after he drove his vehicle around railroad crossing gates in Lake Worth.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office (PBSO) says 24-year old Sean P. Deruise Jr. drove his 2003 Infinity west on Washington Avenue from Dixie Highway in Lake Worth at 1:15 a.m.

Deruise improperly drove around the train gates, which were in the down position and flashing, and was struck.

PBSO says the passenger side of his vehicle was violently impacted by the front of the train. As the crash ensued, his vehicle was redirected in a southwesterly direction and came to rest next to the train.

Deruise died from injuries sustained in the crash. PBSO says his improper and illegal actions were the sole cause of this crash.

On Monday the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office confirmed it was an FEC train involved in the incident.
