LAKE WORTH BEACH, Fla. — The beautiful weather in South Florida on Thanksgiving had tourists escaping the cold weather up north and enjoying a variety of beach activities.
"I think it’s fantastic, beats 9 inches of snow my brother is having up in Maine right now," said Buddy Walker, who is visiting from New Jersey.
He enjoyed Thanksgiving Day at Lake Worth Beach.
Warm sun, blue water -- things he wouldn't dream of doing on this day up north.
"Snorkeling swimming relaxing,” said Buddy Walker.
His wife, Anita, put her own spin on Thanksgiving traditions in Florida.
"Its fabulous. We hosted Thanksgiving for so many years. We're just going back and have steaks,” said Anita Walker.
They are not alone escaping the cold. Many visitors to South Florida were thinking of other ways to spend this day rather than sit on the couch and watch football.
"We're going to do some Thanksgiving dinner, this sounds crazy, but we're going to try to do some paddleboarding for Thanksgiving too if we can,” said Jim Gillahan of North Carolina.
"I love it. I love it, very enthusiastic, everyone is in the spirit. I have done some shopping last night. I went to Bayside in Miami,” said Maria Marte of New York.
For all the fun of a Florida Thanksgiving, Buddy Walker was torn about bragging about it to his brother back in Maine.
"I think I'm going to send him a picture. I have to do it,” said Buddy Walker.
