Violent felon arrested near Lake Worth, PBSO says

SUBURBAN LAKE WORTH, Fla. -- Deputies arrested a violent felon near Lake Worth on Saturday.

Deputies with the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office received credible information that Michael Diaz, who was actively being sought for two outstanding warrants, was inside the Country Inn Restaurant on the 4400 block of S. Military Trail on Saturday.

They received a tip that not only was he was inside the restaurant, but armed and holding a female against her will.

Deputies waited for him to exit the restaurant and attempted to stop him.

Diaz quickly entered his vehicle and fled south on Military Trail with deputies chasing him.

He lost control of his vehicle, bailed out on foot and committed a burglary (unarmed at the time) to an occupied residence.

Michael Diaz was arrested and charged with False Imprisonment, Grand theft Auto, Occupied Residential Burglary, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Aggravated Assault with a Firearm, Aggravated Fleeing and 3 traffic citations for Running a Red Light.

Additional narcotics charges are pending.
