Ranch Rescue dogs in trailers safe for now

Several dozen rescue dogs living in temporary medical trailers will be allowed to stay for the time being.

Officials with the Big Dog Ranch Rescue say town leaders in Loxahatchee Groves were threatening to shut off the power to the trailers because the animals weren’t permitted to be there.

Big Dog owner Lauree Simmons says the temporary trailers function as a vital medical facility for about 50 sick and injured rescue dogs.

Both sides met for mediation on Monday.

The rescue's attorney says the next step is for the town council to schedule a meeting to discuss the issues raised in mediation.

In the meantime, he says there is a court order that prevents anyone from turning off the electricity to the construction trailers.
