PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. — The first day back to school in Palm Beach County since Hurricane Dorian started with a lesson in citizenship and kindness at Frontier Elementary School.
Almost every student heard about the hurricane and all the damage it left behind in the Bahamas. Some kids and parents had questions about how they can help.
Frontier student Leah Marino put it simply: “It was just very upsetting and I would never want that to happen to me or anyone in my family.”
It didn’t take long for those concerns to be echoed and answered. Palm Beach County Schools announced a fundraising effort to raise $100,000 in relief by Sept. 20.
Once the collection drive ends, the Education Foundation will route all funds raised to the American Red Cross.
The district hopes to present the money raised to the district at a special board meeting scheduled for Sept. 25.
Donations can be made at schools marked for Hurricane Dorian Relief or online.
