PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla.-- It was an exciting day for young bookworms as Palm Beach County's Main Library opened its expanded area for children and new teen center.
The location on Summit Boulevard closed in September for renovations. Part of the library already reopened, but today the library celebrated the completion of of the children's area and teen center.
Dozens of kids took part in the ribbon cutting and were the first ones in the new space.
Library Director Douglas Crane says: "This was an opportunity to redesign, redecorate a truly beautiful space for children and teens. The space was always very busy but kind of crowded. Now we’ve opened it up, given it some room to breathe and created our first teen space."
It was part of a nearly $3 million renovation project. Library leaders say the main branch is one of the busiest in the county, but had one of the smallest children's areas.
Elizabeth Braunworth works in the children and teen services department. "Due to the expansion, we are promoting ourselves as a place where every kid, no matter how old, can come to the library and use our facilities. We're very excited to do more outreach and programs and activities for the community."
This is the 50th anniversary of the Palm Beach County Library System, with celebration activities planned throughout the year.
