The town of Palm Beach is taking aim at panhandlers.
The town said it is now unlawful to solicit on its streets, sidewalks, and public areas.
The rule was the result of an emergency ordinance passed by the town council in mid-February, according to a posting on the town's website
It gave this reasoning for the new law: "The restrictions of the ordinance are intended to protect citizens from traffic safety problems, along with intrusive conduct and personal intimidation that accompany certain kinds of solicitation that have become an unwelcome and oppressive presence in the Town."
