PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. — A Palm Beach County student is accused of bringing a gun to campus, hitting a school employee, then speeding away from police.

School District police said on Tuesday around 2 p.m., the Dean of Students at Seminole Ridge High School went to search a student's truck that was illegally parked, and after getting a tip that there was THC oil in the vehicle.

The Dean said when he got to the truck, the student jumped in and opened the center console, where a pellet gun was.

Police said the Dean feared for his safety and ran to the front of the truck to take cover, where the student then hit the Dean and took off.

According to School District police, an officer pulled out his handgun and told the student to stop. The student did not, instead running a stop sign and speeding away, police said.

An officer said he followed the student for several miles, eventually pulling him over and taking him into custody.

The student's identity was not released in a police report. He's now facing several charges including Battery on a School Board Employee and Resisting an Officer Without Violence.

Seminole Ridge High School was never on lockdown during the incident.
