One man is dead and another in custody after a police chase that started in unincorporated Riviera Beach and ended in Lake Park.

At around 3 a.m. Saturday, undercover investigators were conducting surveillance on a suspect wanted on a warrant for armed robbery and shooting.

They observed him leaving an establishment in the 8300 block of Resource Rd, in Riviera Beach with an unknown man.

The wanted suspect noticed the investigators while leaving the establishment and ran to a vehicle in an attempt to flee. PBSO says the unknown male rammed the investigator's vehicle.

Investigators pursued the men about a mile before the driver drove past the RacTrac gas station and into a lake.

As the vehicle was floating, both men attempted to swim away.

Investigators entered the water and immediately apprehended the driver, identified as Lontrelle Durham, 19, of Delray Beach.

Both investigators and Palm Beach County Fire Rescue crews searched for the other wanted suspect, DaJuan Ricardo Peak, 25, of Delray Beach, who was found a short time later underwater. Peak was transported to a local hospital where he later died.

The suspect's family was searching for answers all morning after the incident.

"They won't even let me see my baby" said Polly Peak, the mom of the deceased. "They won't let me see him."

The deceased suspect's aunt, Sue Peak, added, "It's not fair what happened tonight, and something is not right, and I know something is not right," she said.  "We rode around from 4 a.m. wondering where's he at. We rode to Okeechobee, 45th Street until we found out he was here."

Durham was taken into custody and faces multiple charges, including homicide, hit-and-run and fleeing from police.
