Riviera Beach city beaches closed

Yellow caution tape and double red flags is the view for people looking to go to Riviera Beach Municipal Beach.

Amy Randazo a server at Mulligans Beach House says after more than a week of on and off beach closures business is not getting better.

"I've been out of work because of the upper respiratory going on," Randazo said.

Tuesday she went to the hospital after having trouble breathing. Today is her first day back and like many others, she was shocked to find the city's beach closed.

Riviera Beach Fire Rescue announced the closure, Monday morning citing high winds influence on red tide.

"We didn't know until we arrived here so we were a bit disappointed," one vacationer said.

Trixie and her kids traveled from Germany for a beach vacation. She says Riviera Beach Municipal Beach is close to their hotel and Monday like others they were turned away.

"I've never experienced that before," she said.

A few blocks down the road Ocean Reef Park is still open and that's where Patricia Baker and her bible study group meets.

"Today is our first day back," Baker told WPTV.

She says so far they haven't experienced any symptoms. Baker says as long as the beach is open they will continue to show up.

"If this beach stays open it's fine we can come out as often as we want to," she said.

A spokesperson with Palm Beach County said its monitoring beach conditions but as of, Monday county beaches will remain open.
