Evans was fired on Sept. 20 by a 3-2 vote on the council for misfeasance, but a reason was never given.

Evans has recently switched attorneys and has now hired Barbara Bonar.

In the statement Bonar said: “Jonathan Evans has several strong legal claims against the City of Riviera due to the City’s retaliation and wrongful termination in the face of his investigating wrongdoing within the City.”

The city has been placed on notice of Evans’ intention to sue.

Evans’ attorney says they’re in constant contact with the city to see if there is a last minute opportunity to resolve his claims before the lawsuit will be filed.

This would make it lawsuit number five against the city since Evans was fired.
