RIVIERA BEACH, Fla-- On Saturday night, officials with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission arrested 47-year-old Charles Nixon after they say he left the scene of a boating accident near the Lake Worth Inlet.
According to the police report, it happened around 8:00 p.m. The boat reportedly ran into some rocks near the jetty. When authorities responded and asked Nixon to stay until they could reach the boat, Nixon fled the scene.
It took multiple agencies and more than an hour to locate him. The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office helicopter used its heat signal technology to find Nixon hiding in mangroves.
He was arrested on multiple charges including leaving the scene of an accident, resisting arrest and reckless operation of a boat.
He was booked into the Palm Beach County jail where he was released several hours later. Court documents show he is expected to go back in front of a judge in early February.
