RIVIERA BEACH, Fla. — It's a crime of opportunity we may expect to see more of through the end of the year: package thefts. In Riviera Beach, a man dressing up as a delivery man walked right onto the porch and picked up a package, then walked away.
Ring home security video captured the moments.
The homeowner told WPTV he received a notification from Amazon that his package as delivered to his home: a toilet seat cover holder for his business. But when he came home, his package wasn't there.
"I feel violated," James Hickman, who lives near Lone Pines Golf Course, said. "No one wants anyone taking anything from their property or anything of that nature. It's like he came and robbed me. I’m not used to that."
Although Hickman said Amazon is sending him a new package, he said he’s now left with an unsettling feeling.
“I’m going to get one of those package boxes that guys can just put my packages in the box and then lock it so I can make sure I receive my packages in the future,” Hickman. said
Riviera Beach police are asking anyone with information or if you have been a victim to come forward.
Police said they expect to see more of these crimes of opportunity as we get into the holidays. They said there are ways to prevent them.
“Make sure when you’re ordering something, have somebody on site at your home or business to receive the package,” Riviera Beach Officer Cherise Phillip said. “Get a signature to confirm the package.”
Phillips said to also always use your cameras to pay attention to drop offs.
