A driver has died after a crash early Friday morning in Riviera Beach that caused a road closure for about three hours.
The wreck occurred around 4 a.m. near the intersection of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Garden Road.
Riviera Beach Fire Rescue crews pulled the driver out of a vehicle after the car flipped over into a ditch.
"The car was on top of the patient, so we had to use several techniques, deploying the airbags to lift the car off the patient so he could be transported," said Dawayne Watson of Riviera Beach Fire Rescue.
The driver was conscious when he was taken to St. Mary's Medical Center. However, Riviera Beach police spokesman Rose Anne Brown said the driver, whose name has not been released, later died from his injuries.
Westbound MLK Boulevard was blocked from Garden Road to Military Trail but back open by 7:30 a.m.
