Safety patrol students return home from D.C.

Posted

About 500 fifth-grade students received a warm welcome home Monday night after a trip to Washington, D.C.

The trip for the safety patrols involved a long train ride to and from our nation's capital.

The kids, along with their chaperones, spent the weekend sightseeing around Washington, D.C.

They were left with fond memories that they can share with their families, who were very excited to pick them up at the train station.

“We went to the Capitol, and we saw all the great things that everybody has done for the United States of America,” said Christiana Vickers, a safety patrol at Belle Glade Elementary.

“I cried and she cried too. I'm happy she's home safely,” said her mother Carolyn Vickers.

Another group of safety patrols will head up to Washington, D.C. on Thursday.

In total, about 1,200 safety patrols will make the trip from Palm Beach County this year.
