PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. — A South Florida law firm is fighting to stop the sale of e-cigarettes.

The Schlesinger Law Office has been fighting the tobacco industry for decades. In the 90s they won billions of dollars in a lawsuit against the tobacco industry. The law office is now fighting for clients who have used vaping devices.

"We have people contact us who started smoking as young as 12 years old," said Jonathan Gdanski, a partner with the firm.

The law office just filed a lawsuit in Palm Beach County with a student from Florida Atlantic University who was addicted to the JUUL pods. Gdanksi said the man has been extremely ill and in and out of the hospital with lung problems.

Other lawsuits have been filed involving other teens and young adults, all of whom used JUUL.

"The system is now taking its time to figure out where these cases go and how they get shuffled around through the court systems," said Gdanski.

Maria Gonedes is fighting to stop vaping at her high school. The junior started an anti-vaping club at Boca Raton High School. The first meeting had more than 100 kids attend.

"Kids are buying them on their own. Their 18-year-old friends are not buying them, stores are selling them," Gonedes said.

Gonedes said it's great to see the national coverage and to hear people are fighting to stop vaping.
