Wellington might just get a little bigger. Village councilors took the first steps to add a plot of unincorporated land to Wellington. Initial plans call for homes, retail and possibly a hotel but that's still not a done deal.
Village Manager Paul Schofield said a developer already owns about 55 acres there and wanted to annex an additional 10 acres into Wellington for one big development, presumably mixed use.
"We haven’t seen what his plans are on that. It will be interesting to see but at this moment we don’t know," he said. "We are looking for things that are more mixed use…that will bring jobs and sustainability but your typical strip center is not the kind of thing we are looking for."
Schofield said he understands if people might have concerns about traffic and drainage. There will be many opportunities to voice opinions on the development in the next six months to a year.
