WELLINGTON, Fla. — Wellington residents are being warned about using illegal fireworks, and now the mayor says law enforcement has a plan entering the Fourth of July holiday.

"I’m hoping they're a little more proactive we've put together, i think, a plan that will help us be proactive,” says Mayor Anne Gerwig, talking about the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, which patrols Wellington.

Large signs warning about using illegal fireworks have been placed on main roads in Wellington.

Mayor Gerwig says the concerns are coming from homeowners and horse trainers.

"They start spinning in their stalls, rearing and bucking carrying on, and they can't get rid of the noise,” says trainer Holly Mitten referring to how horses react to the sudden noise.

In a statement, PBSO says they will be patrolling in Wellington and taking action when they see fireworks being used.
