WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — Members of Corey Jones' family, along with high profile attorney Benjamin Crump, held a news conference Thursday afternoon following the conviction of former Palm Beach Gardens police officer Nouman Raja.

"I would like to thank all the supporters," said C.J. Jones, Corey Jones's brother. "The support from everybody, from the policemen, from all around the world. We knew Corey was innocent from day one."

Jurors convicted Raja Thursday morning of manslaughter and attempted murder in the shooting death of Jones, whose car had broken down on an I-95 ramp in Palm Beach Gardens.

"We got justice, and that was the most important thing. We just wanted the truth," said C.J. Jones. "We can help other people who are getting injustice too and be there for them."

"It's important that this verdict from this all white jury gives us hope for equal justice in America," said Crump, who also represented the family of Trayvon Martin after the teenager was shot and killed by neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman in Sanford in 2012.
