PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla.-- Books not bullets! That's what one local group says it wants in the classroom.
Volunteers with the Florida chapter of Moms Demand Action dropped off letters and books at State Representative Rick Roth's office against a bill in the state legislature that would allow some teachers to carry guns.
Instead, they say they want the representative to fund books and education materials for students.
The group believes there is no place for guns in the classroom.
“I teach kindergarten and first grade and my students hug me multiple times every day and it would be very easy for them to get hurt if I was wearing a loaded weapon,” teacher Meagan Bell said.
“As a mother I am terrified, I have four children in our public school system and if they knew that their teachers were potentially carrying a gun that would scare them, they’re already scared enough when they have code red drills," said Moms Demand Action spokeswoman Carolina Buia Barefoot.
