CPR classes underway at PBC fire stations

Training for an emergency. That's what fire stations across Palm Beach County are teaching folks.

About 20 fire stations are offering free CPR classes. Instructors are demonstrating life-saving procedures, especially how to perform chest compressions.

At Fire Station 5 in Boynton beach, 15 minute classes were offered today.

Nurse Susan Calle demonstrated how to perform two-minute cycles of consistent chest compressions, a technique to circulate oxygenated blood to vital organs.

Participants say CPR classes are important.

"We're getting older," said Mike Becker, of Boynton Beach, who took the class with his wife. "If something happens to me my wife we'll know [what to do]. If something happens to her, I'll know and if we're around our family it's always nice to know in case something happens to them."

The classes will be offered until noon.

High school students can get community service hours if they attend a class.
