A Palm Beach County 11-year-old received a special honor Tuesday.
John Kemp, Jr. won his battle against a vascular disease so rare that it doesn't even have a name.
So the Palm Beach County Commission just named a day after him.
6 years ago Kemp, Jr. was suddenly overcome with debilitating pain in his back and legs.
Doctors spotted a vascular malformation near his spine. It’s something a Johns Hopkins doctor learned to fix in just the last year.
Kemp's father works for Palm Beach County Fire Rescue, a department that played a huge role in naming June 7th after his son.
"There's no way I could ever have done it without the help of the fire department and all my chiefs, all the guys that work for me. I work for the greatest department in the world,” said Kemp, Sr.
Kemp Jr. says it's pretty cool waking up on a day named after you.
