Leading up to National Police Week agencies all across the country are taking the time to remember the officers that died in the line of duty.
Friday morning the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office honored 16 deputies. Pictures of them were put on display in front of the memorial at the sheriff's office.
One of them is Debby Oetinger's husband, Richard. Deputy Oetinger died in 2000 from medical complications related to an injury he received on duty.
Debby says it means a lot to her that the sheriff’s office continues to honor his memory. "It's important to me that they remember, especially for my children because my youngest lost her dad at 14."
The family of deputy James Dickinson was also among those in attendance. His brother Gary says, “He was the kind of guy with an infectious smile, everybody liked him or loved him. He was a really good deputy sheriff, he cared a lot.”
Each deputy's name was read aloud during the ceremony. A rose was also placed in front of each of their pictures.
