PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. — Palm Beach County’s new Supervisor of Elections is overseeing her first election day since being appointed by the governor.

Wendy Sartory Link said she was “optimistic” about counting the votes for a number of municipal races around the county.

As of Tuesday, about 14,000 mail-in ballots had been delivered to the office. By 5 p.m. Tuesday, more than 24,000 people had voted in person at the polls.

In Boynton Beach, one voter reported receiving a partially filled out ballot at the senior center polling place on Federal Highway.

Sartory Link says a spoiled ballot returned to poll workers was mistakenly handed to another voter.

“Human error is always a possibility,” said Sartory Link.

She said the issue in Boynton Beach was an isolated incident, and the voter who received the spoiled ballot was given a new ballot to cast her votes.

Wendy Sartory Link was appointed two months ago as Supervisor of Elections by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who suspended Susan Bucher who was at the center of the recount troubles in Palm Beach County last November.

Bucher had cited equipment failures as the county failed to meet some deadlines in recounting races.

Next month, new election counting equipment is expected to be delivered to Palm Beach County.
