South Florida native Rob Hiaasen, the brother of Miami Herald columnist Carl Hiaasen, was one of the victims of the newsroom shooting Thursday in Maryland.
Rob Hiaasen was an assistant editor and columnist of the Capital Gazette. He was 59 years old.

Five people died and several were "gravely injured" after a gunman opened fire at the Capital Gazette newspaper building in Annapolis, authorities confirmed.

The suspect was identified as Jarrod Ramos, 38, three senior law enforcement officials briefed on the matter told NBC News. The suspect allegedly had a "vendetta" against the paper, local law enforcement said.
Rob Hiaasen was also a former Palm Beach Post reporter.
